Theta Chapter of
Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Georgia State University
One Mind. One soul. One purpose. One Love.
NATIONAL HISTORY
On December 10,1998 at St. Johns University in New York ten astounding women came together to form Sigma Sigma Rho, making it the first south asian interest sorority of its kind on the east coast.
One this date, our founding mothers established the humble beginnings of an organization that many sisters have since come to embrace and love. These women instilled in the organization a sense of strength and purity.
They are the voice with a successful entrepreneurial endeavor that sisters will never cease to hear. they echo in Sigma Sigma Rho's past and help to shape the organization's future.
The vision of the founders remains in the effect, as sisters build on their dreams and principles to create an everlasting sisterhood and a perpetual organization that is strong enough test time. The name Sigma Sigma Rho was chosen for this organization because it substantially upholds our motives and goals, which are expressed as Sisterhood, Society, and Remembrance.
The first, "Sigma" in our name defines "Sisterhood" - Sisterhood amongst South Asian women and a belief of unity amongst our cultural beliefs and values. What our organization educates society on and women of the south Asian decent is solely based upon the South Asian culture, something that another sorority cannot give to the South Asian female decent. Our cultural restrictions and values lie in two different aspects when compared to another sorority. We carry with us the roots that we have evolved from and strive to have those foot printed through history and across the nation.
The second, "Sigma" of our name defines "Society," which is one of the sole purposes of our organization. Being of South Asian culture, our goal is to be able to surpass the vision of typical woman and show our society that we can do something for ourselves, our community and for people across the nation. We believe in the importance of working together with other organizations that strive for similar beliefs, giving our skills, and time to the society in philanthropic needs.
The third letter, "Rho" in our name defines Remembrance. Remembrance of who we are and never forgetting that. Remembrance of what ancestors and women of our kind have been through and carrying out the voices of those individuals in the society we live in today.

RUSH
Stay Tuned and Check Our Instagram and Facebook Page for Fall 2019 Sigma Class Rush!
What is Rush?
Part of our recruitment process is called Rush. During rush, there will be a series of events in which you will be able to get to know sisters and our organization to see if it's right for you.
Do I have to be of South Asian descent to rush?
No way! We have sisters from totally different ethnic backgrounds. We have sisters that are Jamaican, Guyanese, Caucasian, Asian and African American, just to name a few. Sigma Sigma Rho embraces all women with a respect for all cultures.
Do I have to pay to rush?
Absolutely not! These events are completely free and you have no obligations! We just want to give you an opportunity to get to know us! :)
What kind of events do you have during Rush?
Rush is kicked off with an informational where you will be able to learn more about our organization and ask any questions that you may have. The rest of Rush is filled with fun events where you will be able to get to know us and we'll be able to get to know you! Some past events include ice cream socials, mocktail socials, movie nights, bonfire nights, game nights, and mixers with other organizations.
Do I have to come to all of the events during rush/recruitment week?
Nope! You don't have to come to all of the events, but you must be at one informational, one interview and at least 2 other events. However, we do encourage you to come out to as many events as you can. The more events you come out to, the more chances you have to get to know us! :)
